We invite you to comment on the draft industrial wastewater permit for MG Waldbaum in Gaylord.
MG Waldbaum in Gaylord is located at 120 Tower St., Gaylord, Minnesota 55334-2318, Sibley County. This facility processes eggs to produce precooked and aseptic carton egg products.
The facility operates a mechanical and pond system to treat wastewater from egg processing activities. After the water is treated, it is discharged to Branch 3 Lateral Ditch C of County Ditch 55 at an average rate of 550,000 gallons per day and a maximum rate of 599,000 gallons per day. This permit authorizes waste activated sludge and aeration basin solids to be applied to the land.
Sanitary wastewater is discharged to the city of Gaylord’s wastewater treatment facility.
The draft water quality permit includes new limits for total chloride, total dissolved solids, and total phosphorus. The permit contains a compliance schedule for the facility to meet the final limits for total chloride and total dissolved solids by ten years after permit issuance.
Water quality permits - or National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits - establish specific limits and requirements to protect Minnesota's surface and groundwater quality. Permits are regularly reviewed and updated as they expire, allowing the MPCA to incorporate new information about the impacts of pollutants on the environment in future permits. Permits are enforced through a combination of self-reporting and compliance monitoring.
